Ivy League degree, worked at prestigious companies, and breezed through the coding questions in the interview. He fit the role's requirements perfectly. But he was cocky and arrogant. During the entire interview, he acted uninterested. I could tell he would be difficult to work with. The second candidate was the exact opposite. He stumbled throuqh the coding part of the interview and didn't have much work experience. But he was enthusiastic and curious. He acknowledged his shortcomings with humility and promised he would outwork anyone else. At the end of the interview, he thanked me profusely for interviewing him. It was a tough call.
