r/dogs • 3y ago [deleted] My dog has virtually no interest in the works of the Impressionists [Van No Gogh] 5yo mixed breed rescue. We are planning a trip to Paris next year and I want to take him to the Orsay. It's one of my favorite museums in the world and I want to share my love of impressionism with him. However, he is absolutely zero interest in the works of the Impressionists. Don't get me wrong — I know it's absurd to expect a dog to appreciate a painting on the level of a human. However, I was hoping he would (on some rudimentary level) sense the beauty of the colors, the bold subversion of classical norms, the innovative brushwork. However, he refuses to engage. I can briefly hold his attention when pointing out the way Van Gogh's irises capture the exquisite agony of a tormented soul within breathtaking swirls of color, but I sense that very little of this is getting through to him. It's almost like he has no interest at all in the paintings. Quite frankly, I now dread the idea of wasting my visit trying to explain Manet's Dejeuner or Renoir's country dance or Caillebotte's floorers. I'm starting to panic. Are there any training methods that can help?
